Mandatory PS3 3.15 Firmware Update
The PS3 3.15 firmware update was an option when it first came out. A few neat features such as the ability to transfer files from one PS3 to another over Ethernet and of course, rockin' those bite sized mini's on the big screen. According to Sony, this firmware update is now a mandatory motha freakin' fact of life. This was made mandatory due to a few complication involving Trophy aquisitions.
"We have found out that users will not be able to acquire trophies on some game titles," A SCEE representative informed joystiq. "Users can avoid this problem by updating the PS3 system to firmware 3.15 and therefore we've made it a mandatory update. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate for your understanding and continued support."
So while you have a moment or two, fire up that bad boy and savor the long download and installation times and carry on with your trophy hunting endeavors worry free.

just wanna try
I wonder if this mandatory update has anything to do w/ Geo's recent exploit of the system. Only time will tell.
I guess not, since Geohot practically fucked the PS3 from behind. You probably read this was worse case scenario security, meaning that a firmware update will not improve security. It is not a simple hack for simple systems like the Wii. This is far more reliable
that and it is hacked via Linux where the firmware of the system doesn't matter also this update came out b4 the hack did the update is as of the 15th i believe but geohot didn't pop out his hack till the 20th
Having issues downloading the new update says im connected to the net but gives me crapy error codes ive tried eveything i can think of and still no luck... help
