PSP Comic Service/Reader Coming with Firmware 6.20
Comics are coming to a PlayStation Store near you... Well, maybe... I'm not sure whether these comics are available to North American users or exclusive to Japan. Can anyone confirm?
So it's like this, from what we do know... If you remember back at the Tokyo Game Show, Sony announced their PSP comic service for all PSP models — the fat, the slim, the bright, the go... Not much detail other than that... Not that I'm aware of anyway.
Now, direct from the source, Andriasang sings this new hook --
Downloadable comics will join the PlayStation Store library on December 10 under a new "Comics" category. Content will be available at around ¥420 for a full book and between ¥50 and ¥150 for individual chapters. Unlike other PS Store content, the comics are purchased rather than rented.
Content is being provided by such publishers as Ascii Mediaworks, Enterbrain, Kadokawa Shoten, Kodansha, Shueisha, Shogakkan, Square Enix (yes, they publish comics too), Softbank Creative, Bandai Visual, Bunkasha, Futabasha, Fujimi Shobo, and Hakusensha.
To accommodate this new service Sony plans to release firmware 6.20, which is due out November 19th. The update will add a new "Extra" column to the XMB; from here, you can download the Comic Reader. Albeit, you'll be waiting till December 10th to use said comic reader as Andriasang mentions above. Perhaps this wait will give the hardcores ample time to pick apart this new feature and make it their own. If you know what I'm talking about...
