Halloween Feature: Get Your Scares in HD

In the past, a lot of games have done a great job at scaring the hell out of their players without the need for amazing graphics. They relied on great audio cues and found new ways to get inside the player's head. This year, we figure high-def TV's and next-gen gaming consoles don't come cheap. So, if you've laid your money down for them, we think you should get your money's worth on the Halloween scares. In this feature, we'll be showcasing a few of the scariest HD spine-tinglers available this Halloween season.

Bioshock (Xbox 360/PS3):
While it may be a few years old, this game will pull you into its creatively-imagined, golden-era underwater world where something has gone terribly wrong. This game will keep you immersed in unravelling the mystery behind Rapture from start to finish.

To avoid spoiling it for those who still haven't played it, would you kindly go get yourself a copy? The ending will blow your mind.

Saw: The Videogame (Xbox 360/PS3):
For anyone who knows the film series, this game can run right along with the big dogs. You play as captured Detective David Tapp, as he makes his way through Serial-Killer Jigsaw's twisted puzzles.

Along with finding the solution to brutal puzzles, you'll also encounter other victims that have been captured by Jigsaw, and forced to play his games. This is an important thing to keep in mind, since mainly, their games involve killing you. This game keeps you coming back for more, and is definately a great play for those who enjoy the film series.

Condemned: Criminal Origins (Xbox 360):
It was a bit of a coin toss whether to promote the original, or the sequel in this feature, but eventually, we ended up here.
In Condemned, you play FBI agent-turned-fugitive Ethan Thomas as he chases down a serial killer through the violent slums of New York City.

This game is a change of pace from the average survival horror, as it is entirely first-person but far from being called a shooter, as you're forced to use items from the environment such as lead pipes, fire axes, and even mannequin arms to defend yourself. For an action game that still keeps the horror aspect the whole way through, it's definately worth a look.

Siren: Blood Curse (PS3):
Available as exclusive content to the PlayStation Network, Siren: Blood Curse is available in 12, roughly one-hour chapters and is a remake of the PlayStation 2 original Siren from 2003.

In this title, an American TV crew, while searching for the remains of a long-lost Japanese village, stumble upon a series of gory rituals including human sacrifices and the creepiest renditions of the undead we've ever seen brought to a console game.

What sets this title apart from the rest is how, in addition to being a survival-horror game, Siren: Blood curse is almost entirely stealth-based. Meaning, your character is highly vulnerable to attack and there's a lot more hiding involved in staying alive. Without a doubt, this game is to be played with the lights on.

Dead Space (Xbox 360/PS3):
We had to save the best for last. Dead Space is an epic survival-horror, hardcore gore-fest. You're on a ship, millions of miles from earth, fighting for your own survival against undead, brutally deformed creatures that want nothing more than to rip the flesh from your bones for the sheer pleasure of it.

You make your way from section to section of the ship while fighting to stay alive the whole time. We can definately all say here at Dashhacks, it's one hell of a fight. What's even more awesome about this game is how the player is encouraged to dismember everything in sight. Dead bodies included.

Without any doubts, we can say that this game isn't for the faint of heart and that we're absolutely looking forward to a sequel with rabid anticipation. Play this game, as long as you think you can take it.

Well, that's our take on the scariest games you can play in HD this season. We hope you've enjoyed it and look forward to your comments below.

That's all for now!
