Wii Fit
If you have a fat ass like myself, than this game is for you! No longer will you have to endure that long walk/ride to the gym. Now you can just whip out your Wii balance board and start making an ass out of yourself in the comfort of your own living room! Seriously though, make sure there are no mirrors around when attempting to perform the hula-hoop game.
If you happen to catch a glimpse of yourself while doing this, you'll want to punch yourself out for looking like such a idiot. Unless you're a hot chick of course. Then by all means, feel free to set up some cams.
When I bought this game I had high hopes of becoming the next Commando. I assume they had to cut the tree lifting game out of the final release in order to launch the game on time.
This is how I envisioned myself playing the game when I bought it.
Well it turns out the majority of exercises that are included involve stretching, balancing and wiggling around. Not exactly the same as the training regiment for the 300 movie. I will admit that this game was designed very well from the ground up. It will track your progress by recording information from your *cough* daily *cough* body test.
When you first fire up your Wii and balance board, you're presented with a series of questions along with physical tests to determine if you're underweight, overweight, or juuuuuuuust right. It does this by analyzing your height and weight and gives you a B.M.I. (Body Mass Index) score. Once it compiles all this data, it (yes, it's an 'it') tests your center of balance along with your overall balance by throwing some seemingly innocent mini games at you. But these are not just simple games, oh no. A lot is riding on your performance here......don't sway, keep your back straight, don't lean in ANY direction or else.
The "or else" comes to play when you are presented with your Wii Fit Age. That's right folks, prepare to be put to shame when your Gladiator bod gets a Wii fit age of *drum roll* 47! I am not kidding you. When I first played this game and went through all the hoops, I had the equivalent whatever of a 47 year old! This is mainly because you've never used anything like a balance board before. You've never focused on your center of balance so you will suck. Keep that in mind. But don't let it get ya down.
You are then asked for a weight loss goal and a time line to achieve your goal. All this accumulative data is then stored under your profile and is stamped on your calendar. You can go back to your calendar whenever you choose to re-cap that days events. Included are how many minutes you put in, what your weight or BMI was along with a graph showing your day to day progress towards the end date of your goal. If anything, Wii Fit is a great means of tracking your progress which most people don't exactly have access to aside from documenting it all after every weigh in.
The balance board that comes with the game is the reason you paid a premium for this puppy. It's actually a pretty cool device. It measure your center of balance and all other factors concerning your balance very accurately. During many of the games you will able to actually view your balance in real time, as apposed to fake time. You'll notice a red line or dot that represents your balance and will be the determining factor as to how well you perform during your activities.
Wii Fit is also a game believe it or not! Before you start playing some of the "games" I guess you could call them, you have to choose a trainer. You choose between a male and female trainer and they are there to be your inspiration on your road to a better life. Choose wisely as you will be subjected to some very intimate vantage points during some of the yoga exercises. Your trainer will demonstrate how to properly hold a pose or how to perform a certain action. They give advice during the entire process and encourage you along the way.
There are 4 different categories in Wii Fit including Yoga, Strength Training, Balance Games and Aerobics. Every category has specific work outs that cater to that particular activity type. For example, Yoga has a routine called the 'Warrior Pose'. The more you perform this maneuver or whatever it's called, you unlock other options for the pose. It tracks your score then 'levels up' by unlocking the pose for a longer period of time.
Every exercise or mini game you complete is assigned a time. The more time you put it, more activities are unlocked so in this sense, you're playing a game and progressing through while unlocking new features. Sort of like a Richard Simmons sponsored RPG. The activities and mini games are pretty fun for the most part. Some are not the greatest but they all require you to get up and start moving. If you put a half hour in and mix up your yoga with strength training and aerobics for example, you'll more than likely break a sweat . Beats sitting around and playing regular games.....well not really.
I found my self somewhat devoted to this cause for approximately a week. I have since played it 2 other times in the span of 4 months....ouch. That's just me though. If you have the drive this is a great alternative to expensive gym fees and avoiding dog shit while jogging on the side walk. I recommend this for anyone looking for a different way of getting healthy and staying active. This would especially be great for the elderly and the lazy alike. Let me know if you think I should start this up again. I was thinking about doing a little online journal/blog of my progression. I'd post stats and of my progress just to see if this thing really has what it takes turn me from:
